Mr. Simba

I thought I would share with you guys some pictures of our little puppy Simba. He's really not very little any more, but he thinks he is. He doesn't realize he weighs about 90 lbs, and can easily knock either one of us down on our butts.

Simba LOVES going to the beach. His sole purpose in life is to play fetch, and he knows he will get undivided "fetch" time at the beach. Every visit to the beach is complete excitement for him. He runs and plays till he is so exhausted that he can barely stand any more, but he's not one to give up and sit down. Oh the beach! Simba LOVES the beach!

At home, he thinks the whole world revolves around him. He has his own little cosmos going on in his head. You wear a jacket, he thinks it's time for him to go out. You pick up the car keys, he thinks he's getting to go on a drive. You look him in the eye when it IS time for him to go out, and he will be all over you in excitement.

We tried pretty hard to teach him the "no climbing on furniture" rule. So guess what - he doesn't climb on the family room stuff, which is what we use most of the time. But the formal area - aah, whole different story! Nobody told him THAT furniture was off limits too! Here he is:

The poor baby used to be very car sick as a puppy. His stomach would churn each time he was in the car for over 10 minutes. He'd be sick all over the car, and would be miserable for hours afterwards. Now he's figured that if he acts restless in the backseat, we roll down the windows for him (to distract him - and it works! He hasn't thrown up in the car this entire year). He sticks his head out and enjoys the breeze (never mind that our ears are popping with the noise on the freeway at the time!). He's also figured that he can keep going from one window to the other on the backseat, and we will keep rolling the window down on whichever side he is. So it's a constant oscillation - left, right, left, right!! Drives me insane, but he loves it :-)

He's our completely goofy, lovable, VERY VERY COMMUNICATIVE little baby. He listens to Dad (DH), but he knows Dad listens to Mama (me) (hehehehe). So when he thinks it's time for him to be taken out to play, he whines in front of Dad a couple of times, and then comes and puts a paw on my lap, as if to say "OK Mom, time to do your magic. Dad needs to get up and take me out NOW".

And needless to say - he has been a complete lifesaver for us as well. Nothing takes away stress as does a dog wagging his tail at you, looking at you with those imploring, guilt inducing eyes. Gotta love it!!

Awww!

He's adorable!!! Aren't are 'babies' just the best??? I love my dog more than anything too, and I swear he thinks he's a person. It's so funny how they really understand so much of what you are saying! My dog lives for the beach too :) Not only do our dogs give us so much love, but it's always so unconditional and constant. there is nothing better than a wag and kiss from my dog when I'm having a bad day. And even through the hell of IVF he's been known to make me smile when I thought I never would again.

Beautiful Puppy!! That's the kind of dog DH wants someday. There is a GS rescue near us we would go to. That beach pic is great...so jealous of that view!!

That picture on the sand is gorgeous!

We are finally going to get a dog this year! It is our Christmas present to ourselves - really our only one - even though we have to wait until February so we can get through all our holiday travels and be home with our new friend. I have never had a dog before and I can't wait!

Simba is beautiful!! I love German's.

And the beach... I love going to the beach. Unfortunately, we don't get there nearly as often as we want to.

You reminded me about this great book called Cat & Dog theology.

It talks about how cat's say that their owners feed them, pet them, clean after them, play with them - so they must be God. But dogs say that their owners feed them, pet them, clean after them, play with them - so their owner must be God. It's that unconditional love.

At first our dog wasn't allowed in the bedroom, then it just became a slippery slope. Now she sleeps curled up right next to me under the covers!

Thanks for asking about my dad! You are so sweet. He's doing much better. He is doing his PT. And for the first time 2 days ago walked up the stairs like a normal person. He said the pain is almost gone and his range of motion is so much better. So that's a huge praise!!

I hope you have a great weekend.

Awww, what a gorgeous dog you have! I so understand how it is to love a dog so much! Even though our dog is totally indoors (including potty), she so enjoys going outside to get the mail. We live in FL, so every season is always flea season so DH always carries her to the mailbox and back. Anyway, I'm so glad that Simba could bring you so much love and joy. Our Buttercup does that for us, too. Great feel good post! Thank you. I needed that. :)

He is a cutie! My first dog was a German Shepherd named Brownie. Simba reminds me a lot of him.

The dog I had in high school was a beagle named Benji. I loved him! He also had terrible car sickness. The vet said we could give him Dramamine on our car trip from south Georgia to Chicago. He still looked freaked out, but at least he didn't foam at the mouth and puke everywhere!
